Meeting called to order by Joanne Masson at 7:05pm.

Minutes from Oct 14th meeting were reviewed. Janet Irvine made the motion to accept the minutes. Kim Jarvis seconded the motion. Motion passed. Minutes accepted.

Business arising from Minutes
There was no new business. Everything covered in the agenda.

Treasurer’s Report
April Beals presented her report.

$5860.73 Balance (before payment for pasta)

$627.15 is the cost of our new movie license.

Janet Irvine made the motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Kim Jarvis seconded the motion. Motion passed. Report accepted.

Christmas Craft Fair

  • December 12th at FSH
  • Need someone with a truck to help with picking up tables from churches.
  • People needed to help with set up on Dec 11th in the evening.

    Janet Irvine, Kim Jarvis, April Beals, Jennifer Palk, and Joanne Masson.

  • December 12th need people to run the canteen.

    Will serve soup, crackers, tea, coffee, sweets, popcorn and juice.
    April Beals will look into supplies at Cash & Carry.
    Christine Brittain-Campbell will get the soup at Costco. She will also pick up the coffee.
    Janet Irvine will pick up the tea and bring in milk jugs.
    Water and juice boxes to be picked up

  • Public relations/Flyers – word needs to be out for event.


  • Flea market

  • Date: December 9th and 10th.
  • Kim Jarvis, Lori Reimer and Louise Elliott will help on the 9th with set up.
  • Janet Irvine will help on the 10th with sales. But she has to do hot lunch from 11:00am till 1:00pm.


  • Literacy Night
    Christmas cookies requested by Mrs. O’Blenes to serve that evening.

    Christmas Concerts

  • Serve Christmas cookies and apple juice.
  • Spirit leaders could be in charge of the table.


  • Movie Days

  • Cine Films is our new license
  • Next movie is tomorrow “UP”
  • Janet Irvine will help tomorrow at the movie.
  • Following movie in January “Chronicles of Narnia”
  • Date January 21st with snow date January 28th.


  • Fundraising

  • Canadian Tire Raffle made $5197.15.
  • Pasta campaign is running presently with pasta to be delivered before Christmas.
  • Lisa Lanteigne gave Tanya Whitney a website for “Please Mum” which will give money to schools.

  • $2105.92 is our balance.


  • Correspondence
    A card was sent from Alice Hayward, our school librarian, with thanks for supporting her in the fight to save her job.

  • Craft Fair Dec 12th 2009.
  • $15 per table/23 vendors confirmed so far.
  • 10:00am till 3:00pm
  • Open 6:00pm to 8:30pm the Friday night before for set up.
  • Funds raised will go towards student activities because of the bus cuts.
  • Musician coming (April’s brother) to play for 2 hours.
  • Offer Santa pictures if possible.
  • Janet Irvine to ask Wacky Wheatley’s about their signs.
  • Isabelle Logan will contact Irving Refinery about their sign.
  • Deadline for registration is Nov 17th (Dec 4th?).


  • School Bus Safety Week

  • A card and Tim Horton’s gift card will be purchased for the top 2 drivers.
  • The 2 drivers who received the most votes were Terry # 27 & Pauline # 31.


  • Freezies

  • Will be kept till the end of the year.


  • Movie Days

  • Jeff Ingalls will be doing the Tech Support (maybe).
  • New license is not bought yet. We are waiting for the old license to expire.
  • Next movie is “UP” on Nov 26th, 2009.


  • Fundraising

  • Raffle tickets have brought in $1627.30 so far.
  • Oct 26th due date and draw will be Oct 30th.
  • Motion made to give Liz Klinkenberg (Chet/Tech teacher) the left over Canadian Tire money of $77 and top it up to $100.
  • Lovable Labels – Sarah Ingalls will check on our online order profits.
  • Pasta Campaign will begin Nov 3rd and run till Nov 16th, 2009.
  • KFC – grant for school. April Beals is looking into it.
  • Sobey’s Breakfast Program – Principal need to apply.
  • Jewelry Campaign.
  • 23 members to date.

    We started with three new members, so we began with introductions. We then reviewed the agenda. Sarah Ingalls wanted to add the Tech Class letter requesting supplies to the agenda.
    Minutes from May 11th meeting were reviewed. Lori Gillies made the motion to accept the minutes. Isabelle Logan seconded the motion. Motion passed. Minutes accepted.

    Correspondence
    Correspondence was received from Home & School head office.

  • The association’s secretary, Carrie Golding, has stepped down.
  • Calendars are for sale for $3.50.
  • An invitation also was received for workshops on executive committees for Home & School. Ours will be offered at Rothesay High School on Sept 21st, 2009.

  • Tech Supplies

  • Sarah Ingalls received a list of supplies from Liz Klinkenberg for Tech this year.
  • Lots of different areas will be covered & human resources will be needed for different trades.
  • The list will be added to our Home & School website and Sarah Ingalls suggested maybe we could supply some of these supplies with our funds.
  • Three big fundraisers:
    Grade 8’s are doing cookbooks.
    Grade 7’s are doing quilts.
    Grade 6’s are doing cooking classes.
    Each grade has different charities for their profits.

  • Treasurer’s Report
    April Beals delivered the report to Joanne Masson. Our beginning balance is $837.58.

    Principal’s Report

  • Tanya Whitney suggested Dec 12th, 2009 for a Craft Fair that we could help organize. Everyone agreed. So the fair is a go.
  • Tom Richards is our only new teacher. He is teaching Music to middle school students.
  • Grade 6 classes will be having an orientation night for students & parents. A date has not been set yet. The Home & School has been asked to provide a snack.
  • On our future parent-teacher evenings, Tanya Whitney will be offering quick (up to 20 minutes) parent information sessions. The Home & School has been asked to provide a snack for these evenings as well.
  • Our school magnets, with the school website information, are ready. Lori Gillies offered to pick them up for Ms. Whitney tomorrow at Key Industries. These magnets should be home next week with the students.
  • Bus Trip cuts. Bus trips will be at a minimum this year. Year-end trips will need to have fundraisers.
  • Regulations will be soon arriving on new rules for handling food items. A user fee for venders may also be required.
  • SJ kids wishes to partner with our school for events. They would also like to provide free parent sessions at the school. Sarah Ingalls is the contact.
  • Community Connections meeting is Sept 30th, 2009 at 3:30pm. Isabelle Logan will go to represent the Home & School.
  • Parking is being monitored in the back lot again by Mr. Blucher.
  • New scoreboard is to be installed any day now.
  • Sarah Ingalls questioned Ms. Whitney about school supply lists. Her daughter’s list for Grade 7 seemed to be very long. Ms. Whitney stated that all lists have to be approved by the office and she will look into these lists being more accurate.
  • Floor was opened for questions, none were asked.

    Presentation by Mrs. Brewer

  • Communication is the focus this year. The importance of music in learning.
  • Inclusion is her preferred way to teach.
  • The love & enjoyment of music is more important than talent.
  • Mrs. Brewer requested input for extra curricular activities that would attract students especially boys to the choir.
  • Two performances planned “Slapshot Santa” for Christmas and after Christmas, a tribute to baseball.
  • Fundraising will be needed for donation to the Empty Stocking Fund.

  • Open House

  • Sept 21st, 2009
  • Lori Gillies will speak on behalf of Home & School.
  • Sarah Ingalls will make display boards.
  • Louise Elliott will set up table with volunteer information & tickets for Canadian Tire raffle.
  • Isabelle Logan will also help with the table.

  • Movie Days

  • Next movie is “Monsters vs. Aliens” on Sept 24th, 2009.
  • We have decided to get a contract with Audio Cine Films (after DVD release).
  • Isabelle Logan will look into popcorn supplies & purchase juice boxes for movie days.
  • Louise Elliott will purchase 100 bags of popcorn from Little John’s.
  • Kim Jarvis will be available for clean up.
  • The following movie is “Ice Age 3” on Oct 15th, 2009.

  • Fundraising

  • Kiwanis calendars – No
  • Canadian Tire Money collected last year was over $830.
  • Raffle begins next week. Runs till Oct 30th, 2009.
  • Top prize is $500 Canadian Tire gift card.
  • Top seller for students will receive $100 gift card.
  • All other sellers have a 1 in 3 chance of winning $50 gift card.

    Business from Minutes

  • Canadian Tire money collected so far is approximately $130.
  • Ice cream party is for the class with the most money collected from K to 8.
  • Reptile Guy is booked for Fun Day
  • The day that the new score board is unveiled Dave Gervis from Canadian Tire wishes to be present to donate gym items (balls etc…) to Forest Hills. Brian Duffy has the contact information.

  • Treasurer’s Report
    April Beals was not present to give report. There is approximately $1000 left in our account.

    AGM
    Louise Elliott read the report on all the activities attended at the AGM. Pat Roy made the motion to accept the report into record. Cara Miller seconded the motion. Report accepted.

    Year End Home & School Report

  • Reports will be posted on the website immediately.
  • In the Fall annual report will be provided at the Open House for all parents to take home along with membership information.
  • Christine Brittain-Campbell would like information about volunteers for class parent to be included.
  • We would also like a Home & School member to visit teacher team meetings periodically with information or suggestions.


  • Movie Days

  • Next movie was changed from May 7th to May 21st because Joanne Masson did not get notices out in time.
  • Movie will be “Hotel for Dogs”
  • Louise Elliott will rent movie & order 100 bags of popcorn from Little John’s Convenience.
  • Louise Elliott will also pick up gift card for Gary Masson. Sarah Ingalls will make the presentation at the movie.


  • Fun Day
    Christine Brittain-Campbell will e-mail Chapman’s about a donation & direct delivery of 800 treats.

    Fundraising
    •Calendars

  • Calendars were available through District Home & School for $2.00.
  • It was decided to purchase 50 calendars to sell at the Open House in the fall.
  • Joanne will ask if we can reorder more if needed.


  • •Christmas Cards

  • Brian Duffy will speak to printer & report back about prices to produce cards made from student designs.
  • A winning design would be picked from Grades K to 2, 3 to 5, and 6 to 8 and printed onto cards for purchase by parents, faculty and the public.


  • •Regal

  • Most people think Regal is a good idea. But Pat Roy has reservations from teacher’s point of view because of dissatisfied customers.


  • •Pasta

  • This campaign was suggested as a possible repeat fundraiser because of its success last year.


  • Next Meeting

  • Date pending
  • Pot Luck meeting will be held at Christine Brittain-Campbell’s house.
  • Once a date had been decided, Joanne Masson will contact members.

    Principal’s Report
    •First week of June is Disability Week. Thinking of a walk & roll. Joanne Masson suggested partnering with residents from the Villa.
    •May 27th will be second Literacy night.
    •“Hot Toddy” the band will be visiting the middle school.
    •Lunch money profits go towards school activities brought into the school.
    •April 20th – 25th is Environmental Week.
    •Brent Mason is coming in May.
    •The Alpha course is coming in May.
    •Brian Duffy suggested Atlantic Centre For The Arts. Tanya Whitney believed it was too expensive.
    •Back field – Wendy Papadopoulos sent a request for information.
    •Playground was opened today. Garden crew will straighten up the gravel first & then at risk students working with Miss Ellis will work on it after that.
    •Community Fun Day is cancelled for this year. Need to inform Little John’s Variety, Wendy Papadopoulos (PR) & YMCA about the cancellation.
    •“Reptile Guy” – need to find out if he is available for School Fun Day near the end of June. Please let Tanya Whitney know immediately.

    Movie Days
    •“Madagascar 2” had a profit of $138.64.
    •Next movie is “Hotel for Dogs” on May 7th.
    •Suggested a gift certificate for Gary Masson for doing our movie days all year. Lori Gillies made the motion for a $25 Future Shop gift card. Louise Elliott seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed.
    •Joyce Chevarie is going to show us how to use the popcorn machine. Need to find out where to get butter and where the supplies are.

    AGM
    •April 25th-27th in Moncton.
    •Lori Gillies & Louise Elliott will be the only ones attending.

    Scoreboards
    •Tanya Whitney mentioned that the students were $1100 away from a new scoreboard.
    •Louise Elliott suggested instead of a Smart Board, which we are still a long way away from purchasing, we should give the $1100 to the scoreboard fundraiser. It would be nice to do something big for this year.
    •Joanne Masson put a motion forward to give the school $1100 they need to purchase the new scoreboard. Lori Gillies first the motion. Isabelle Logan seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed.
    •Cheque was written and presented to Tanya Whitney at the end of the meeting.

    Fundraising
    •Regal Campaign suggested for fall fundraiser before Christmas.
    •Canadian Tire money – money will be collected & charted by each class. Items can then be purchased for school gym or a larger item can be purchased & used to sell raffle tickets on. Brian Duffy will contact Canadian Tire about a donation.
    •Forest Hill’s Finest – for Smart Board fundraiser.
    •Christmas cards – cards could be made with students’ drawings and older students could do the verses for inside. First Printing could do the printing.
    •Kiwanis calendars
    •Cookbooks

    Class Parents
    •Notice could be put out for volunteers to be class parents. Christine Brittain-Campbell would need to be contacted for more information.

    Joanne Masson asked if something could be added to the agenda. Tanya Whitney wanted mentoring from Big Brothers/Big Sisters added to the agenda.

    Principal’s Report
    •Mentoring from Big Brothers/Big Sisters during school time.
    •We will need to get volunteers/training will be done by Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
    •Sarah Ingalls suggested that we look at local churches for volunteers.
    •Amy MacDonald suggested colored paper for handouts for volunteers.
    •Sarah Ingalls suggested we promote this at the Community Fun Day.
    •Tanya Whitney will do a blitz to arouse interest in the program.
    •Donations are needed like board games/craft supplies.
    •Activities will be done at the school.
    •Community Connections meeting to be April 22nd, 2009 at 3:30pm.
    •Janet Irvine asked if there was any new information about the soccer field.
    •Tanya Whitney said she hasn’t heard anything but will look into it.

    Movie Days
    •Next movie this Thursday March 16th, 2009.
    •“Madagascar 2”
    •Janet Irvine is getting the juice & movie.
    •Louise Elliott is getting the popcorn. (125 bags)
    •Joanne Masson will get change on Thursday from Donna Folkins in the office
    •Next movie is May 7th, 2009 “Hotel for Dogs”
    •Possible movie on June 11th, 2009.

    TSAW Update
    •$154.24 was spent for the week.
    •Tanya Whitney said consensus was that staff enjoyed the treats & prizes.

    •Amy MacDonald & April Beals are a maybe.
    •Amy MacDonald will look into cheap hotel rates through work.
    •Lori Gillies will book the room.

    Community Fun Day

    •YMCA is okay with us using the gym.
    •36 Homerooms & only 10 have smart boards.
    •Maria Gravelle has offered to help.
    •Sarah Ingalls will call Pasta guy for Falcon tattoos.
    •Tanya Whitney suggested a Chinese auction.
    •Cara Miller will look into pony rides.
    •Wendy Papadopoulos may be able to do promo/advertising for us.
